Wow, this place is amazing and the staff is friendly. This is what flavorful home-cooked meals are all about. The restaurant is hidden away in a small shopping complex. I tried several dishes and all were wonderful. My favorite is the Pollo en Mole - chicken that's been stewed in a rich, spicy, and delicious chocolate-based sauce. WOW. Everything else was wonderful and only makes me want to come back to try the rest of the menu. I had a couple fish dishes and the fish was fresh and didn't taste frozen at all. The pork and fish were full of flavor, tender, and falling off the bone. Here's what I had: Poll en Mole - chicken mole (a spicy chocolate sauce) Puerco Guisado - stewed pork in a tomato-based sauce Tajados de Platano - grilled fish with fried plantains Filete - grilled fish with veggies Pupusa - thick tortilla that's pancake-sized and made out of corn meal stuffed with cheese, beans, and pork served with slaw. Super basic but super delicious. Yum!

My girlfriend and I were reluctant to try La Reyna's at first, because we were travelling in Louisiana and wanted to stick strictly to cajun/creole. However, the reviews on the site persuaded us to give La Reyna a try, and we were not disappointed. My girlfriend ordered the Honduran Enchilada and she enjoyed her meal (the Enchilada was probably a 4 star experience). I ordered the Puerco Guisado a/k/a Pork Stew, however, and it absolutely blew us both away. The meat was very tender, the stew had the perfect consistency and flavor, and we ended up using the rice from the Enchilada dish to soak up what little stew remained from my Puerco Guisado plate. I definitely recommend going to this place if you are in Baton Rouge.

Good, authentic food at a great (cheap) price. Service lacking a bit, but well worth a try. The pork stew is amazing!

I love La Reyna Latin Restaurant. They have the most delicious chicken tortilla soup & the Pollo Con Papas (stewed chicken). The staff is friendly and welcoming. Their menu is located on website. lareynarestaurant.com

I have eaten here many times. For me this is the place for Hispanic food in Baton Rouge. There is nothing fancy about the place or it's food. It is basically like sitting down to a family dinner or going to a diner in Honduras. Prices are great, portions are big, staff is friendly, and the taste is out of this world. I have a love affair for their Puerco Guisado. It is a savory pork stew that has flavors that just never end. I have also had the Paella, Asada, Adobo, Taco Asada, and Honduran Enchiladas. All were excellent! Nothing has ever disappointed me. I normally accompany my meal with a Tropical Fruit drink, normally the passion fruit made with milk. I love when you can find authentic ethnic foods without any American bastardization or as a food snob would call fusion. Do not go here looking for Tex-Mex. This place does it for me and does it well. Check them out and enjoy the experience. lareynarestaurant.com/in…

Probably the best-kept secret restaurant of the town, La Reyna has been the favorite restaurant of my wife and myself. It's little, not fancy, and not the cleanest. A local restaurant in Honduras would be like this. I don't claim to be an expert of South American dishes, but they serve different dishes from anything else in town. My favorite is Molé (smothered chicken in spicy chocolate-based sauce). Yes, chocolate, though not a sweet version. A couple of large pieces of chicken come with rice and beans (you can substitute with steamed veggies), and it's very filling. Their tortilla soup is also good, though I usually order Molé so that I had it only once. :-) My wife tried different things, and nothing disappointed her. Pork chops are very flavorful, fish tacos are quite healthy and good, beef strips are also good, and pork in tomato-based sauce is good (though not as different). Such side dishes as fried plantain and meat pies are also interesting (and good), at least for novices like us. A little lady there is always cheerful and attentive, creating a friendly atmosphere. I think Groupon helped them big time; we got hooked because of that....

Awesome authentic food. The people there are extremely nice and warm-hearted. The food is the fresh and well made. I definitely recommend it.

La Reyna has such unique dishes and very very tasty and authentic! I always get the tajadas & the agua de maracuya (passionfruit water) a few times a month. They are very accommodating and always make my special requests. YUM YUM YUM!

I just moved to the area and was craving Pupusas. I tried this place and the food is pretty good. The Pupusas were ok, but its a Honduran restaurant and being salvadorian myself I know what a great Pupusa tastes like. The platanos were really good!!! Will definitely try again.

This food is absolutely delicious, even better than certain other Latin American restaurants here that cost far more! The tacos asada in particular are well-crafted with many different fresh vegetables and excellently-seasoned beef, all contributing to a flavor unlike anything else you can get in this city. Ordinarily, you'd have to go to Texas or Florida to get food like this. I only had one problem with La Reyna; they don't always having someone there who speaks English well enough to take an order over the phone. This is, honestly, a nitpick: if you dine in, you can simply point to the right item on the menu and it will be no problem, but if you want to order takeout then it will be difficult unless you speak Spanish. Even if you struggle through ordering takeout with someone who barely understands you, the food will be so good you can't help but forgive them and promise to come again soon. This is a place to remember!

Sooooo good. Today, I made my second trip to La Reyna. This place had been on my radar for a while, so when a friend mentioned a groupon, I quickly agreed to help her. On our first visit we each order from the lunch menu- FYI- generous portions and affordable. We both had a stewed meat, my chicken and her pork dishes were both delicious. Today we only ordered from the appetizer lists. Everything was yum-yum in the tum. This is a small, quiet place with a friendly waitress. My general tip: any Hispanic restaurant filled with Hispanics eating, must be delicious.

Food was bland, the only good thing was the pupusa. The enchilada had ZERO flavor and the tortilla soup was missing that extra taste that makes it a tortilla soup and not just a chicken soup with tortilla chips in it. Frankly, find somewhere else with flavor. Did I mentioned that there were kids running around in the kitchen? they probable were 5 or 6 y.o.

Amazing Honduran food. You need to try it whether you're familiar with Honduran food or not. The owners are so friendly and all the staff provides excellent service. Most importantly, this food is so delicious!!!! Ask about menu items you're not sure about and you'll definitely find something to love on the menu. Also the drinks are great here too. Definitely worth trying out if you're in Baton Rouge.

Great experience! If you want food that is like it was cooked at home (Honduran home, that is) this is it. Delicious food, generous portions and good price. If you want good service, this is the place! The owner gives you personal attention and is very kind, sweet and attentive. Our family had the Asada, Camerones Picante, fish enchilada and Pollos con Papas. Oh yes, let's not forget the fried plantains! the sweet ones were my favorite! All of it was delicious! The resturant is sweet and simple, makes you feel like you're at home. We will go back!

Exactly what we expected when we stopped in to try them for a late Sunday lunch. Home style Honduran fare that sticks to your ribs and is plentiful. Pupusa, Shrimp Picante, enchiladas which are more like a tostada but very flavorful. Jarritos and Topo Chica out of the drink cooler. All had a home dining appeal and we took home some of the enchilada as well for layer. Will return and will also call in for to go from them as well. Well done La Reyna.

Not very impressed. I had to try it since everyone said it was good but it was just ok and I thought it was pretty pricey. I've had better Honduran food than this.I ordered the Baleadas which would've been ok but the steak was way too salty and so was the sour cream but the price on those were ok because they were big. It was $7.99 for two of them. On the other hand, my boyfriends plate had 3 tacos, rice and beans for $9.99 and a Melon juice for $4.25. I tasted the tacos and personally the tacos on the corner of Coursey/Cedarcrest are 10 times better and are only $2 a piece. The steak was way too salty, the curtido wasn't good, the rice was nothing special and neither were the beans. The plate he got should've cost $7.99 max. Lets talk about the Melon drink. It was good but it was about 1/3 water, 1/3 ice and 1/3 Melon juice. $4.25 is the price of a smoothie, there should have been a lot more Melon and a lot less water and ice in that drink for that price.(Come to find out later, they overcharged us.) I was also very disappointed with the pupusas. I didn't even try them because they only make one kind: pork & cheese. Most places make bean & cheese, bean, pork & cheese or just cheese or bean. I'm not sure if these are pre-made or what but regardless they didn't have bean & cheese so I didn't even try the pupusas. I won't be coming back. I think I'll stick with the Taco Truck on Coursey/Cedarcrest they have really good Honduran food at a decent price and the owners are nicer.

There is no fussy service. They cater to a spanish-Latin community and they deliver great Honduran food. I had the pollo con papas, a great chicken stew. A quarter of a chicken, rice, potatoes, and corn tortillas for $10 (lunch menu). I was full!!

I had a Groupon to try La Reyna and went on a quiet weekday for a late lunch. I ordered tostones for an appetizer and the beleadas with cream cheese, beans, and eggs for my meal. The tostones were delicious, as was the sauce they came with. The beleadas were extremely bland and not very appetizing. I drowned them in hot sauce and it didn't help much. I am not at all experienced in Honduran food so I don't know if this is typical, but I couldn't imagine this dish appealing to many people. I was also disappointed that there was not a bit of fresh produce (a few lettuce shreds or tomato slices) included-- what I would expect with a dish as a garnish at this type of restaurant. I feel it would have brightened up the dish a bit! I'm not sure I'd go back unless I was craving some tostones!

We had pupusas and the Honduran tacos. Both dishes were delightful. The Honduran tacos came in a giant serving of 3 and we're loaded with cabbage, cheese, veggies, and sauce. The chicken inside was super delicious. Great pickled veggies alongside the pupusas as well.

I've been to this place several times because they keep popping up on Groupon. The prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious. It looks like the restaurant is run by one family because there are always kids running around. The food is unique in Baton Rouge and I only give it four stars because the service can be slow. (Probably because there is only one cook).

I was excited to try this place because I love all Latin food. I found the food was lacking in flavor. It was pretty bland. I ordered the enchiladas (which are deep fried and flat) and I probably should have gone for the mole. For a mom & pop shop the service was good.

First time trying Honduran food, and must say that it is awesome. It was difficult to decide what to get so we used some of the yelp reviews to help us :-) First thing - ANYTHING WITH BEEF WILL BE AMAZING! We had the Honduran tacos and they were amazing. We also ordered Pallea that was great as well, but I would probably only order it with a beef side. We had the pupusa and that was worth the drive alone! We will return for that if for nothing else. The Tostones were not so great, but they were out of the crema. I think if I had crema it would have been much better. Adding this to my fav list!

  • Mandy V.

I loved the Pupusa appetizer. My husband had the Honduran enchiladas and didn't really like them because they were so over fried they were almost burnt. I had the stewed chicken (can't remember the name of dish) but I liked it. It wasn't amazing tho. I really think the Honduran enchiladas would have been good if they weren't cooked as long. Maybe it was an "off" night?

As a Dominican, I really appreciate La Reyna exists. Most of the latin restaurants in BR are pretty tragic. The ones that are authentic are typically Mexican eateries. Nice to have an authentic Honduran restaurant to change things up a bit. This place is the real deal!

My partner had to prove to me by looking up our Groupon history that we had actually eaten here so unmemorable was the experience. What little I do recall after having my memory jogged was the CHILDREN climbing on chairs and roaming the restaurant. Now, I understand the family owned restaurant concept very well. My former partner was Vietnamese and grew up working from childhood in her parent's restaurant. I also am pretty well versed in things Latino/a and understand the concept of familia within a cultural context, HOWEVER this isn't South America and the last thing I'm interested in during a meal out is the owner's children roaming around unsupervised while I'm trying to have a nice meal. I honestly don't recall what I had to eat, but I DO recall my partner's "Paella" distinctly. It is listed on the menu as "Traditional Spanish rice dish - an assortment of beef, chicken, shrimp and vegetables with fried plantains and a side salad." That's what it's describe as... in my partner's words, this is what it is... "A bland rice dish surrounded by a circle of fried plantains... with virtually no meat and mixed vegetable. Carrots, peas, perhaps corn and green beans... but MOSTLY plantains. How many bananas can you eat!" "The food was so poor. I was so disappointed. Too many tables in too small a room. Wouldn't ever go back"

Yum to the max. We had papusas, enchiladas, paella, and tostones with mango con aqua. So much food for $40. Amazing amounts of flavor from a little hol in the wall. If I lived here, this would be my jam.

I can't believe the reviews on this place! My boyfriend and I visited and the food was terrible! We LOVE Central American cuisine but this was below par! Did not taste fresh nor good. We only enjoyed the Latin soda that came in a bottle. Save your money and time and go elsewhere.

I've been to La Reyna for dinner twice now and have been more than satisfied with both the service and food both times. It's an authentic, locally owned Honduran restaurant. It's very hole-in-the wall but don't let that fool you- the food is amazing. It's a cozy atmosphere- with only about 12 tables but the staff is very friendly and eager to please. Entree's range in price from $10-$15.

This is a great traditional Honduran/Central American/Latino restaurant. If you want AUTHENTIC home cooked Central American food then this is the place. I'm Domincan, so I eat here primarily for the plantino maduro. They also serve traditional breakfast here. They also have take out. I highly recommend it.

Given that we're talking about a tiny mom-and-pop restaurant like La Reyna--a type I generally love to patronize--I hate to be a dissenter from all the gracious goodwill expressed here. Mind you, I didn't think La Reyna was bad. But all the five-star reviews may have unreasonably bolstered my expectations. The main problem was the entree I ordered, the pan-fried whole tilapia. Not only was it the driest dish I've had in some time--this dish came only with rather over-fried plaintains and red cabbage, and it was just crying for some kind of salsa, or other moisture--but the fish didn't have much seasoning to speak of. And it might have been a notch overcooked, too. It just wasn't very good. Everything else was solid. A Honduran-style pupusa, which was stuffed with ground pork cracklings and served with pickled red cabbage, onion, and pepper, was terrific. My brother ordered the adobo (stewed beef), which he really liked. La Reyna serves tropical fruit drinks--mine was mango--that taste totally natural and are very refreshing. No alcohol, though. That's kind of a bummer. Also a slight bummer was the fact that the prices on the actual menu are actually a buck or two higher than those reflected on the current website's menu. The little dining area--this place probably seats about 25 or 30 when full--is cozy and colorful. Service was pleasant. 3.5 stars, rounded up.

What an awesome little place to eat. Great food, generous portions, friendly staff. Try the puerco guisado. Get some plantains as an appetizer. If you bring the kids, get them the chicken quesadillas; both our kids raved about them. I can't wait to try every single thing on the menu here.

I was not a fan of this place. I was so excited after buying the Living Social deal because I have never had Honduran food before! After a shopping trip one day, me and my family decided to check it out. First of all, it was in a very unfamiliar strip mall and I was not too impressed with the interiors of the restaurant. Our server told us to sit anywhere (no one else was in the restaurant at the time), so upon getting seated, she handed us some menus. She did not give us any specials or ask if we had been there before. After taking our drink orders another couple walked in and she seated them. She seemed to know that couple because she spoke to them an awful lot in Spanish and pretty much ignored us the whole time. She finally decided to take our food order and it came out in about 15 minutes. I have to say it was quite tasty, but the dishes were plated so plainly. She continued to ignore us, not even asking if we needed more to drink or who everything was. If you want to try Honduran food, I do not discourage you from trying it, especially if there is a Groupon or Living Social deal available because you may have a far better experience than we did. I, however, will not return. Customer service lacked immensely!!

I meant to post a review of this little jewel earlier but somehow neglected to do so. This unassuming little restaurant will likely surprise you quite positively. I've been several times and depending on the time of day there could be a slight wait. Service is fairly quick and the food is worth it. There is a beef tip type dish on the menu that is really good. (Adobo) It comes in a light tomato based sauce with spices that awaken your mouth without a fiery sensation. It is serves on fragrant rice and comes with a side. They also serve fruit drinks that are made there and are quite good. I've tried several of the traditional dishes and am typically pleased. Honduran tacos are quite good. This is also one of the few places to get mole. It is also nicely done.

Dined here for the first time today with an ex-chef\foodie friend, and another friend who is a self proclaimed "Louisiana Snob" from Lafayette. Two gentlemen with discerning palates graciously showing me the wonderful eats of good old Baton Rouge. I learn a whole lot about Louisiana food and culture from these guys and one of the lessons taught today is that Baton Rouge doesn't have as good of Cajun food as Lafayette but they do have some good Honduran food tucked away, hiding from plain site. Hand pressed tortillas that are delicious and assuredly made with decades of acquired skill that can be noticed at first bite. The plates of Puerco Guisado will melt your brain as the delicious stewed pork melts in your mouth. The tomato based stew is cazuela style with rich spices and earthy flavors that penetrate every fiber of the meat. There is a small glissening flow of oil that occur when stewing with naturally rich cuts of meat that when scooped up, deliver a wallop of goodness right into your mouth. Imagine a fresh handmade corn tortilla in your hand warm and ready for some pieces of pork to be cradled in its grasp. Now gently dip that combination into the plated stew and gaze as the richness and oils drip from the tortilla and pork assembled in your hand. Think about that for a sec and you will get as hungry as I am right now while writing this. Only getting 4 stars because I had only tried 1 dish and if the rest are as good as this then I will reevaluate. Good for groups up to 8 and the place can seat up to 40 people at most.
